As in other subject areas, the study of English involves the need for students to take responsibility for their learning. It is expected that students come to class with all relevant materials ready to work at their full potential. If cell phones become a distraction in the classroom, students will be asked to leave them in their lockers or in their school bags turned off unless they are required for an activity or assignment. It is also expected that students treat everyone in the classroom with the utmost respect. Lastly, students will submit fully completed work to the best of their ability by the due date and will receive a mark accordingly based on the Ministry of Education scoring guides.
The teacher provides students with learning opportunities that integrate language process and scaffold learning. The teacher also holds students accountable by setting and adhering to due dates given to assignments. Assignments will be marked accordingly with the Ministry of Education scoring guides.
Parent / guardian
The family is the primary educator in the development of students’ attitudes and values. Parents and guardians can support, enrich, and extend the curriculum at home by monitoring their child’s/children’s work and inquiring about due dates, assignments, and work effort.
